Jonathan A. Salt

Jonathan A. Salt is a senior associate in the firm's San Diego area office. He also serves as the firm's Associate General Counsel. Mr. Salt primarily advises school districts with issues relating to labor and employment, employee discipline and investigations, workplace safety, and governance, including issues related to compliance with the California Voting Rights Act. He has successfully represented districts in certificated disciplinary proceedings before Commissions on Professional Competency and discrimination complaints before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and Department of Fair Employment & Housing. Mr. Salt frequently presents to school boards regarding election issues, governance best practices, and Brown Act compliance while serving as a co-leader of F3's Governance & Leadership practice group.

As the firm's Associate General Counsel, Mr. Salt provides legal counsel and guidance to ensure compliance in employment, business, and contract matters. In this capacity, he assists with providing legal counsel to the firm at large, reviewing contracts and offering guidance to ensure F3's overall legal compliance in employment matters, transactions and business initiatives.

Prior to joining F3, Mr. Salt served in the San Diego City Attorney's Office as a Post Bar Graduate Law Clerk in the Criminal Division, Trial Unit, successfully litigating trials for the prosecution. During law school, he worked as a Certified Summer Law Clerk with the Orange County District Attorney's Office, assisting in trial preparation, arraignments, plea agreements and arguing evidentiary motions. In addition, Mr. Salt served with the Office of Chief Counsel in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as a Legal Intern in Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Prior to law school, he also worked in Washington, D.C. at the National Housing Trust and as an intern for the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary for the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy within the Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees and Border Security. Outside of his professional activities, Mr. Salt is an active fundraiser for pancreatic cancer research and support services and previously served as a volunteer in Hurricane Katrina Relief efforts.

Mr. Salt earned his Juris Doctor from University of San Diego School of Law. He was chosen as the Student Commencement Speaker for 2013. While in law school, Mr. Salt was a member of the Moot Court National Team and held several leadership positions within the Student Bar Association. He received awards for Oral Argument, as well as being selected as a USD Law Honor Scholarship Recipient and a USD Law Student Leader Scholar Recipient. He holds a B.A. in History and Political Science from Boston University, where he was on the Dean's List and was a Dean's Scholarship Recipient.
