Matt Vance is the managing associate in the Los Angeles office. His main practice areas include labor and employment, student matters, and governance and public agency. Mr. Vance also serves as co-chair of the Firm's Governance and Leadership Practice Group.
While Mr. Vance encounters and resolves a myriad of legal issues in the educational field, Mr. Vance routinely handles employee discipline, investigations, and leaves, DFEH and EEOC discrimination and retaliation charges, labor negotiations and disputes including unfair practice charges before California’s Public Employee Relations Board (PERB). Mr. Vance routinely handles student bullying, unlawful discrimination, and sexual harassment investigations, discipline, records requests, and general student matters. Mr. Vance advises clients about the Brown Act, handles public records requests, and works with district administrators and Governing Board's on governing policies and regulations. Mr. Vance advises clients on general legal matters, including subpoenas, cross-over issues regarding criminal and family laws, and employee depositions and court trials. Mr. Vance presents on these topics, among others, as well, and provides clients related trainings and professional development opportunities.
Mr. Vance graduated with great distinction from the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law. During law school, Mr. Vance was a staff writer and editor for the Business and Development Law Journal. Mr. Vance was a member of the Moot Court Honors Board, winning awards for best brief, best oral advocate, and semi-finalist at the Niagara International Moot Court Competition. Mr. Vance earned his bachelor's degree in Business Economics, with high honors, from the University of California Santa Barbara.
Mr. Vance is a member of the California State Bar and also admitted to practice law in the United States District Court Central and Eastern Divisions. Mr. Vance enjoys spending time with family and friends, attending concerts and sporting events (especially the LA Rams, Lakers, and Dodgers!), and traveling and enjoying good cuisines.
