Shiva E. Stein is a partner in
the San Diego office and is a member of the Business, Facilities, Real Estate,
Construction & Energy, Labor & Employment, and Litigation Practice
Groups. Ms. Stein is an experienced civil litigator in state and federal court,
mediation, arbitration, and before federal and state administrative agencies
such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Department of Fair
Employment & Housing, and the California Labor Commissioner’s Office. Ms.
Stein represents school districts, county offices of education, community
colleges, and school administrators state-wide regarding all aspects of civil
litigation – pre litigation through trial. Areas of Ms. Stein’s practice
include: Employment, Torts, ADA, Civil Rights, Public Entity Defense, Real
Estate, and General Business Litigation. Ms. Stein regularly defends public
entities in a wide range of claims including: personal injury, dangerous
conditions of public property, wrongful termination, civil rights violations,
ADA litigation, wage and hour compliance, discrimination, construction
defect, and security/law enforcement defense.
Prior to joining the firm, Ms.
Stein had a successful career working for several national, regional and
local civil litigation firms. Throughout her 18 years, Ms. Stein has
represented individuals, non-profit organizations, religious entities, public
entities, and corporations. Ms. Stein has represented both plaintiffs and
defendants. Ms. Stein’s broad based experience allows her to assess each matter
and employ creative, cost-effective, and successful legal strategies.
Ms. Stein graduated with academic distinction from San Diego State University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and minor in Sociology. Ms. Stein was awarded a Dean’s Scholarship to California Western School of Law, where she obtained her Juris Doctor in 2001. During law school Ms. Stein worked at both the San Diego District Attorney’s office (Bureau of Child Support Enforcement) and the Santa Cruz District Attorney’s office (Criminal Prosecutions Division). Ms. Stein was admitted to the State Bar of California in November of 2001. She is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court, the Central, Southern, and Eastern Districts of California, and the United States Northern District Court of Texas. Ms. Stein is also a licensed real estate broker, licensed by the State of California Department of Real Estate.
