Angela Gordon is the Office Managing Partner in the firm’s Los Angeles office. Her practice focuses primarily in special education and student matters, including issues related to technology, equity, access and cyber citizenship. Ms. Gordon represents and advises school districts, county offices of education and special education local plan areas with regard to student issues across all facets of special education law and practice. Ms. Gordon has counseled districts in a variety of forums including due process hearings and mediations before the California Special Education Hearing Office and the Office of Administrative Hearings; IEP team meetings; as well as compliance complaints before the California Department of Education and the United State Department of Education Office for Civil Rights. Additionally, Ms. Gordon provides counsel to districts statewide on issues relating to employee discipline and dismissal; she also assists K-12 and Higher Education clients in personnel investigations.
A popular speaker, Ms. Gordon is recognized for her comprehensive understanding of special education and IEP implementation across all public education settings, including charter and non-traditional school sites. She regularly conducts special education trainings for charter school leaders throughout Southern California addressing issues surrounding FAPE, due process and least restrictive environments in non-traditional school settings.
Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Gordon worked as a legal affairs specialist for the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. She was responsible for managing the University’s litigation and representing the University’s interests in numerous mediations and settlement conferences. The cases in which Ms. Gordon was involved concerned a broad range of legal issues, including labor and employment matters, employment discrimination, workers compensation and wrongful termination.
Ms. Gordon received her Juris Doctor from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Prior to that, she attended Mills College in Oakland, California, where she completed a double major in Economics and French Studies. Ms. Gordon also spent a year studying abroad at the University of Paris, Sorbonne. Ms. Gordon is an active member of both the Beverly Hills and Los Angeles County Bar Associations.
