Overview

In her broad, multifaceted practice, Amanda Georgino represents and advises school boards and school administrators in the areas of labor and employment, governance and litigation. She handles a variety of legal issues concerning employees, students, parents, labor associations and the public—with a particular focus on employee discipline matters.

Amanda brings sensitivity, keen insight and a steady approach to fraught situations such as teacher terminations, employee dismissal hearings, layoff hearings and investigations involving Title IX complaints and other allegations of employee participation in physical abuse, discrimination and sexual harassment. In these matters, she thoroughly synthesizes information, breaks it into “bite-sized” understandable pieces, and presents clients with thoughtful and thorough evaluations and explanations of nuances. She then lays out a concise timeline of steps they’ll take together.

On the governance end of her practice, Amanda advises districts on Brown Act and Public Records Act compliance and board-related issues, including questions related to curriculum changes and their effects on graduation requirements. She also occasionally handles student-related questions and concerns about health services, discipline and transfers and boundaries.

Throughout her legal career, Amanda has provided counseling and addressed disputes and concerns involving legal topics such as constitutional rights, torts, the American with Disabilities Act/Fair Employment and Housing Act analysis and compliance, benefits and payroll and collective bargaining. Amanda’s experience also includes Family Medical Leave Act/California Family Rights Act issues, Public Employment Relations Board conflicts, layoffs and merit system questions. These matters frequently involve myriad employment angles, including certificated and classified employee status and suggested language for disciplinary meetings with personnel.

Amanda enjoys providing adroit counsel in a way that helps clients prevent problems and resolve difficulties as efficiently as possible. As a mother, she has seen first-hand the immense impact that schools and teachers have on children’s lives, as well as on their larger communities. She’s happy to contribute her knowledge and skills to support these organizations as they carry out their essential mission of keeping students safe and providing them with the tools they need to learn and thrive.

After School

In addition to traveling and enjoying good food together, our family volunteers at various organizations in our community. We are a frequent foster family for the kitten program at the Pasadena Humane Society and also serve meals at Union Station Homeless Services and the Midnight Mission. My children are swimmers, and I’m involved with the board and booster club at their aquatic center, in part helping with the outreach program to make the pools more accessible to diverse populations. I’m also very involved in volunteering at my children’s high school.
