Public education runs in Adam Henningsen’s DNA. As a former teacher with several educators and administrators in his family, he injects his legal practice with a strong passion for and dedication to schools. Adam represents school districts and their employees in lawsuits and administrative matters. In addition, he assists school boards and administrators with day-to-day legal questions including student, labor and employment, and public relations issues. 

Adam previously worked at education law firms in Missouri and Illinois, serving as both general counsel and litigation counsel for school districts, colleges, and other employers. He has also represented clients in an array of administrative matters, including investigations and hearings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights, the National Labor Relations Board, the Wage and Hour Division of the U.S. Department of Labor, the Illinois Department of Human Rights and the Missouri Commission on Human Rights. In addition, Adam brings experience in handling grievances, arbitrations, mediations, tenured teacher dismissals, and student discipline matters. 

Growing up, Adam was deeply influenced by his grandfather, who was a school superintendent, his father, who is a retired superintendent, and his mother, who is a retired elementary school teacher. His brother currently serves as a principal, and Adam himself taught briefly before attending law school. When he turned his eyes towards a legal career, education law was not only a natural fit, it was exactly what he wanted to do.  

Adam brings a steady, calming presence that puts clients at ease as they navigate a nuanced legal environment that’s often largely unfamiliar to them. When they face lawsuits or agency complaints, he guides and supports them every step of the way and ensures that they fully understand the processes they encounter. Adam takes great satisfaction in removing legal burdens from the shoulders of administrators so they can focus on the very important job of running their schools and school districts.
