What can I solve for you?

I thoroughly enjoy collaborating with school districts and charter schools on the best strategies to address the day-to-day matters in the special education environment, while also advising and training them on attaining their overall, long-term goals. Drawing on more than two decades of service in this important area, I counsel my clients on an array of student-related issues and represent them in negotiations, hearings and appeals and before various state and federal agencies.

What's it like to work with me?

Because my mother taught special education students, I learned early on how everyone in this field is deeply committed to what’s best for the child. This family background helped me understand both the teachers’ and school districts’ perspectives, which enhances my ability to serve clients today. I’m told clients appreciate the care I take in examining the relevant issues of a matter with them and ensuring they consider all their options before choosing the direction we’ll go—always together.

Overview

Bringing extensive experience, top-tier legal skills and a calm, confident demeanor, Anne Sherlock advise and represents school districts, county offices of education, charter schools and SELPAs in a wide range of special education and student matters. She advocates for educational agencies in IEP meetings, mediations, due process hearings and federal court appeals.

School districts and charter schools rely on Anne to apply her persuasive presentation skills in handling complaints for them before the Office of Administrative Hearings, Office for Civil Rights, and the California Department of Education. She also advises school districts on general education student issues ranging from student records to student discipline to access and Section 504 plans.

She understands the significance of the long-term relationships schools have with families and works creatively and collaboratively to preserve or repair those valuable relationships. Clients appreciate her dogged determination to prevail on their behalf.

As a leader in special education and a captivating speaker on the issues in this arena, Anne frequently conducts presentations on a variety of topics. They include special education assessments, IEP development, discipline, Section 504, and charter school matters. She has delivered speeches before the California School Boards Association, Association of California School Administrators, California Council of School Attorneys, California Association of School Psychologists and several school districts and SELPAs.
