I can also improve communication and help to build stronger relationships—between superintendents and boards, and beyond to the broader community.

What's it like to work with me?

I enjoy and excel at bringing people together, and am a strong organizer and facilitator. I’ve done lot of “healing” in my career, by bringing various stakeholders together and earning their trust and respect. Communication and transparency are key to accomplishing this. I bring diverse experiences to my role, having worked with the full range of constituents, from high-achieving, affluent districts to more socioeconomically marginalized communities. This provides me with a nuanced perspective and a rich context from which to draw insights and offer tailored advice.

Overview

Veteran school administrator and executive coach Dr. Donald Evans helps school boards and superintendents excel. He assists in creating best practices for strategic vision and goals, organizational structure, and multi-tiered school systems. Additionally, he supports curriculum development, governance, budgeting, community engagement, and professional development. He is regularly called upon to provide these services in an interim superintendent capacity.

With more experienced superintendents Donald often collaborates on board relations, organization, vision and strategy. Newer superintendents appreciate his insights on navigating the micro politics in school districts and collective bargaining.

Transparency is a key component of Donald’s approach—one he helps other school leaders to embrace and more effectively attain.

Before launching his consultancy, Donald held numerous superintendent and interim superintendent positions, including roles at the Berkeley, Piedmont (interim), and Hayward Unified school districts. Earlier in his career, he also served as an area superintendent/network officer for Oakland Unified School District, associate superintendent of secondary education for Compton Unified School District, and as a principal, vice principal and teacher.

After School

I love to travel, most recently went on a wonderful trip to Portugal and Spain. I also love to hike in the trails near the Oakland hills, with my dog Charlie.
