A commanding force in education law, Sara Boucek advises clients on school board administrative relationships and governance issues. She represents schools in complex conflicts and crisis management issues, as well as in labor and employment matters including collective bargaining, mediations, discipline, dismissal, contracts and grievances.

Known for her proactive approach, direct advice and engaging personality, Sara relishes preventing and resolving complex problems. She helps people find their commonality instead of their differences so they can reach outcomes that work for all parties. Clients appreciate Sara’s ability to connect with all kinds of people, get to the heart of their matters, and guide them through challenges, such as terminations, with kindness and compassion.

Sara started her career representing Boards of Education until being named general counsel for the Illinois Association of School Administrators. During her years at IASA, Sara negotiated thousands of administrator contracts, advised the association on policies and legislative initiatives and provided representation on numerous task forces and legislative matters.

Additionally, Sara has helped draft and implement major legislation and initiatives, including the Performance Evaluation Reform Act, Evidence-Based Funding and student discipline reform.

A sought-after speaker, Sara presents to public education organizations and clients as well as at state, local and national conferences on an array of subjects, including school law, education reform, trauma-informed educational practices, administrative employment contracts, legislative changes and more. She has also given a TED Talk on the topic of resilience.
