What can I solve for you?

I help clients navigate the range of legal challenges including employee discipline, workplace investigations, and compliance with the rules and regulations governing our educational institutions. My work focuses on supporting school districts and education leaders with a variety of matters in the areas of data privacy and AI, labor and employment, and governance.

What's it like to work with me?

My work in education began in the classroom working directly with students and alongside other district employees committed to fostering productive learning environments and prioritizing equitable access to education. Clients appreciate that my beliefs are reflective of their own. Clients also appreciate my direct communication style and collaborative process. As a result, clients trust that I will work diligently to resolve their matters and ensure they receive effective assistance.

Overview

Utieyin Ekwejunor-Etchie focuses her practice on the intersection of education and technology, labor, employment, and governance matters. She helps clients stay up to date on new laws regarding education technology and Artificial Intelligence, as well as, counsels clients through personnel investigations, employee discipline, discrimination and harassment claims, and issues of compliance under the Brown Act.

A product of the California public school system herself, Utieyin is passionate about this work because she understands the profound impact one teacher can make in a student’s educational outcome. She values districts that ensure employees contribute to creating a safe environment where students can learn and succeed. Additionally, she assists with Public Records Act requests, interpreting new laws for governing boards, and drafting and revising policies and regulations to ensure compliance.

With experience in Bay Area school districts and at a global fintech company, she brings a deep understanding of the opportunities and challenges that technology presents in education. She recognizes the effects of the digital divide on student success, while being mindful of privacy and cybersecurity risks that accompany increased access to technology in school communities. Utieyin applies her insights to guide school districts in the acquisition of new technology and its responsible usage.

After School

My community (local, national, and international) has always been my favorite classroom. In that regard, you can find me exploring biodiversity while hiking through my favorite trails and national parks, observing chemical reactions in my kitchen while trying new recipes, and learning new languages and world history through my travels.
