One of the remnants of the pandemic has been a resistance to return to things as they once were. In education, families are moving away from public education in increased numbers and moving toward alternatives–private education, homeschool, and virtual options. This has also resurfaced (not that it ever sank) the debate around a standard public education versus the right of parents to school shop. It is unclear whether this trend will continue but it is certainly worth noting as public schools continue to struggle with funding and budget allocation.
This year, roughly a million students used some sort of private education voucher, more than double the number from four years earlier, according to research from EdChoice, a group that tracks the sector.
