One day after the Executive Order to dismantle the Department of Education, President Trump announced that programs for students with disabilities will be handled by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) starting “immediately,” although he didn’t specify when the transitions would take place or what will happen with federal employees currently working on those issues.
This change aligns with the President’s statements prior to issuing the Order that “he intends to disperse the [education] department’s core functions — such as Pell Grants, Title I funding, and providing funding and resources for students with disabilities — to other parts of the government.”
