What can I solve for you?

In service to our clients, I draw on 35 years of experience advocating for and supporting public education, a vast network of relationships across the state and in Washington, D.C., and a deep well of institutional and strategic knowledge. I assist both F3 Law attorneys and education professionals on a wide range of matters that arise in legislation and policy, governance, bond campaigns, school facilities and other areas.

What's it like to work with me?

It’s embedded in my DNA to help people, with honesty, integrity and reliability. I feel fortunate to have spent more than three decades—and counting—working to enhance the educational environment through advocacy, counseling and collaborating with people to achieve common goals. I truly enjoy addressing the needs of school districts and other educational professionals, which ultimately benefits students.

Overview

As a valuable member of F3 Law Next Level Client Services, Laura Preston applies the skill sets she cultivated during her distinguished career in public education advocacy and lobbying with the California School Boards Association (CSBA) and the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA). Education professionals and policymakers across the state recognize and respect the work Laura has performed, notably her critical role in helping draft California’s first state school facility program post-Proposition 13, among her many other successful efforts. She’s also well known for her extensive knowledge of school facilities and public education governance.

Laura closely monitors the ever-evolving regulatory framework to help F3 attorneys see and fully understand upcoming legislation and other developments at state and federal levels so they can advise school districts on preparing for such changes. She serves as a liaison between the lawyers and the many education association professionals, policymakers and legislative committee members and others with whom she has worked. Laura fully recognizes that, by bringing their extensive experience in and knowledge of case law, attorneys provide an important resource to the people making the policies that affect the firm’s clients.

Laura also works directly with clients, drawing on her two decades with ACSA in representing more than 17,000 school administrators before the state legislature and Congress. In this capacity, she focused on collective bargaining and employee-employer relations, privacy and Title IX issues, career technical education and alternative school discipline. She also developed and analyzed legislation and advocated on the behalf of ACSA members. Additionally, she trained administrators on a variety of issues and frequently spoke before small and large groups.

While clients gain value from Laura’s background and know-how, they also benefit from her deep appreciation for them, as well as the passion and dedication she brings to her service. As she says: “Educators and school administrators are a special group of people, and they’re in the profession for the right reasons. I feel honored to assist them in navigating the many challenges they encounter, which helps them do the important work they do.”

After School

I enjoy spending time with my adult daughter, and I have a passion for cooking, which extends to preparing meals for community members in need. I like gardening and canning/preserving, and I’m a huge football fan, particularly of the San Francisco 49ers. In addition, raising money and supporting research into the heart disease hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is very important to me.
