What can I solve for you?

I focus my practice on two different but equally important areas for school districts. Drawing on my legal acumen and communications skills, I counsel clients on a range of issues in business and facilities as well as in the dynamic, fast-changing ematters arena.

What's it like to work with me?

My clients can rely on me to give each matter and problem my best effort, no matter if it’s a big or small issue. In addition to being very dedicated, knowledgeable and detail-oriented, I bring a lot of enthusiasm about public education to my work. It’s an honor to help our clients serve students in their very important educational mission.

Overview

In her two-pronged practice, Lauren Rubio handles ematters and issues in the business and facilities area, where she performs transactional work such as providing legal oversight of procurement processes and general contracting. With deep insight into complex topics relating to cyberspace and digital technology, she helps school districts navigate ever-evolving areas such as data privacy and artificial intelligence (AI).

Lauren guides clients in developing rules governing electronic communication by students, staff and parents and answers questions about topics such as what types of content board members can and can’t post on official district social media pages, as well as on their own personal pages. She also addresses student data protection and dissemination and advises on managing vendors and reviewing third-party contracts to ensure they stay compliant with State and Federal student data privacy laws.

Always keeping abreast of new developments that affect clients’ online presence and electronic communications, Lauren keeps her eye on emerging hot-button issues, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in education. She is adept at navigating the complex intersection of technology and education. Lauren embraces all challenges that come her way and is committed to providing school district clients with outstanding service in everything she does.

After School

I’m enthusiastic about cooking, and my specialties include deep-dish cast iron pizza, parmesan risotto and crème brulee. I also love to visit the Des Moines farmers market and explore new hiking areas around Iowa.
