What can I solve for you?

Drawing on my legal acumen, communication skills and steadfast commitment to serving my clients, I handle an array of matters in the special education and students services areas. I represent school districts in disciplinary proceedings under various statutes, advocate for them at the appellate level, and conduct day-to-day counseling and training to help prevent problems from arising.

What's it like to work with me?

With a decade of experience and knowledge in special education and student issues, I bring strong creative problem-solving skills to disputes between parents and school districts. I always strive to shape efficient, amicable resolutions that avoid the expense of further litigation. While I always protect my clients’ interests, I also know that it’s important to help all parties preserve relationships so they can continue to work together to create an environment where students can thrive.

Overview

Amanda D’Amico advises clients in all aspects of special education law and disciplinary proceedings under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, including compliance, resolution sessions, mediation, due process hearings, special education appeals and defense of school districts in federal and state civil litigation.

Amanda enjoys the constantly evolving nature of the special education arena and prioritizes staying updated on new developments and regulations that could affect her clients. She also appreciates the opportunity to potentially shape law through advocating in cases that move through influential jurisdictions, that frequently hand down decisions that entail wide-ranging impacts on school organizations throughout California and beyond.

Amanda’s personable nature and strong communication skills enable her to build long-lasting professional relationships, which she nurtures in day-to-day counseling sessions. She also brings compassion and sensitivity to help clients navigate delicate and often emotional legal issues involving children and teens. A vigorous advocate for the public agencies she represents, Amanda works to craft budget-friendly outcomes that further school districts’ best interests.

No matter what issue she takes on, Amanda always looks beyond the matter at hand for any systemic issues that should be addressed to avoid problems down the road. She enjoys sharing knowledge with clients so they can improve their processes and frequently conducts training sessions for school districts throughout California.

Previously, Amanda represented municipalities and school districts in employment discrimination and civil rights litigation, including disability and race discrimination, harassment, wage and hour, wrongful termination and excessive force cases.

After School

In addition to spending time with my family, I like traveling, running, and working out at Orangetheory Fitness gyms.
