What can I solve for you?

I advise clients on an array of special education and student services matters and have successfully represented them in due process hearings. In addition, I am committed to helping school districts create and maintain the best possible environments for learning. In particular, I help my clients navigate the intricacies of transgender student access in the school setting.

What's it like to work with me?

I’m proud to work alongside our clients to meet the needs of California public school students. It’s satisfying to help school districts solve problems—or direct them to the person who can best help them. I’m very thorough and efficient in everything I do. When I present clients with recommendations and options, I know that I’ve thought through all potential next steps and their likely consequences, not only for my clients, but also for their students and school community.

Overview

Anisha Asher focuses her practice on special education and student services matters and due process hearings. Always striving to resolve problems as early as possible, Anisha looks to craft mutually acceptable outcomes to student discipline problems. When a due process hearing is necessary, she competently guides and advocates for her clients while keeping in mind the larger purpose—providing all students a safe and appropriate learning environment. Anisha’s professional, engaging and student-centric approach helps preserve relationships between school districts and the families they serve.

With a particular expertise in the area of transgender access, she advises school districts on questions and issues that arise when students come out as nonbinary or otherwise gender-diverse. Clients rely on Anisha’s advice on how to provide appropriate resources and facilities to students, how schools can best support those going through transitions, and how they can optimally communicate with parents, families and the greater school community on transgender-related topics.

Anisha communicates in clear, understandable terms and crafts compelling narratives that get her points across effectively. She calibrates her messages to meet the needs of her audiences, whether they’re clients, colleagues, judges or school parents and families. A skilled public speaker, Anisha and F3 partner Wes Parsons frequently deliver well-received interactive presentations on transgender student issues, manifestation determinations, compensatory education following the COVID-19 pandemic and Section 504 matters at various conferences throughout California, as well as for school districts and SELPA clients.

Prior to joining F3, Anisha worked at the California Department of Rehabilitation and Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County, where she gained valuable experience in a variety of legal issues, including those pertaining to employment, consumer healthcare programs and special education. During law school, she clerked for the Learning Rights Law Center and the National Center for Youth Law. Prior to pursuing her law career, she was a Corps Member with JusticeCorps.
