Nathan Levin guides universities, community and junior colleges, and K–12 school districts through the full spectrum of education law issues. With more than 18 years of combined legal and compliance experience at a major university, he brings deep insights into both the legal challenges and opportunities schools are now navigating.

Nate’s areas of practice include Department of Education issues and audits; federal privacy laws such as FERPA and HIPAA; public records and open meetings requirements; and the Clery Act, which involves crime reporting obligations, statistical disclosures and campus safety training. Well-versed in student affairs, such as student misconduct and issues pertaining to student organizations such as fraternities and sororities, he also offers seasoned and strategic counsel on real estate and other educational business matters.

With a concentrated focus on education and athletics, Nate advises both universities and high schools on coaching contracts, Title IX gender equity compliance, ‘Name, Image and Likeness’ (NIL) and other matters. In the wake of the NCAA’s decision to eliminate the National Letter of Intent, he serves as a particularly valuable resource for either institutions, or high school athletes and their families, in the interpretation and negotiation of written offers of athletic aid and ‘Name, Image and Likeness’ (NIL) payments. He also provides college and high school athletes with important review and negotiation of NIL deals and agreements.

Counting the University of Iowa athletic department as a former client, Nate has developed deep familiarity with Division 1 athletic issues. As the director of a youth basketball club and the father of multiple Division 1 athletes, he has also built strong connections with a number of college coaches.
