What can I solve for you?

I’ve dedicated my life to public service, serving more than a decade as a public defender and child advocate. Now I use my vast legal experience to help clients navigate the complex world of special education law.

What's it like to work with me?

As an experienced advocate, I know how to cultivate beneficial relationships with clients, judges and opposing counsel. I am committed to delivering positive outcomes for my clients by understanding the needs and goals school districts have and addressing them.

Childrens Advocate Marian Wright Edelman said “education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your own community and world better than you found it.” This is the work.

Overview

Sheryl Bailey advises Los Angeles area school districts on special education matters including Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), assessments, and legal and regulatory compliance. She also utilizes her 13 years of litigation experience to prepare school districts for due process hearings and mediations.

Sheryl’s career speaks for itself. She spent the last decade as a public defender for Los Angeles County where she represented children charged with crimes and helped them navigate both the criminal and special education systems. Before that, she was a dispute resolution volunteer and an attorney for adopted children.

Sheryl’s passion for education started with her mother who worked as a teacher, inspiring her to teach during school. During law school, she volunteered with Southwestern Law School’s Children’s Rights Clinic, where she represented children and their parents in IEP meetings and disciplinary hearings. Sheryl also served on the governing board of GAMES Charter school where she served as a liaison between legal counsel and the board.

After School

I love to read any genre, but if you’re asking, my favorite book is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I love traveling and find solace when I’m on Bruce’s Beach in Manhattan Beach, CA. My guilty pleasures are cooking Panamanian food and singing along to ‘90s R&B songs.
