What can I solve for you?

My past experience as an educator and school counselor gives me a unique perspective on helping clients navigate student matters and labor and employment issues. I provide clear guidance in a complex area that comes with a multifaceted and ever-evolving set of laws.

What's it like to work with me?

I want my clients to know that I’m their teammate as well as their advocate. I build strong relationships based on collaboration and take a fresh and creative approach to problem-solving.

Overview

A dedicated proponent of youth and education, Stephanie “Steph” Richards, brings a wealth of experience and a compassionate outlook to her practice. Focusing on labor and employment issues and a variety of student matters, Steph helps school districts provide resources that enable kids to learn and thrive in safe and nurturing environments. She helps clients on an array of issues, including those that involve special education, student discipline, due process hearings, IEP meetings, Title IX investigations, and more.

With a people-centered approach, Steph gets to know her clients well so she can best serve them over the long term. Her love of learning drives her to stay well-informed and current on relevant legal developments, educational trends, and societal changes and influences. If Steph doesn’t know something off the top of her head, she dives into uncovering the relevant information to give her clients the best and most up-to-date advice possible.

Before Steph entered the legal profession, she served as a teacher and a school counselor, experiences that enhance her ability to understand school districts’ issues and needs and offer insightful legal guidance. Clients also benefit from her excellent legal research, writing and advocacy skills. When litigating, Steph strikes a balance between taking a confident, vigorous courtroom stance and being approachable and flexible with all the parties involved—a strategy that tends to produce optimal results.

After School

I love running and just completed the Chicago Marathon, which was my first full marathon. I also am working through my goal of completing a half marathon in every state; so far I’ve done 16 races. That pursuit fits in with another activity my husband and I enjoy: traveling and exploring new places.
